Polish AK manufacturer Pioneer Arms has shut down. The race to the bottom is often littered with the bodies of very strong competitors. When you play a margin game with a marginal product it doesn't take much to push you too far into the red where it is unrecoverable. The overall ramifications to the AK market will be felt in the coming months and years. I expect a 10-20% increase in prices to meet the new demand on existing manufacturers.

Ak vs Ar was a debate that made sense 20 years ago when you could get a really good quality AK for $300 and came with a pallet of ammo. But in this market where WASR 10s are selling for $1k, it’s not even close anymore

Only reason to use an AK today is 1: you really like it and are very experienced with one. 2: you live in a very frigid environment. 3: both.

"Don't AR your AK" is the best advice.

AKs have become boutique weapons. It’s a flex to shoot x39 these days, let alone 545. If I’m stacking, it’s more 556 / 9mm / .22lr / 12ga. AKs are cool for sure, I have a couple imports. But damn, they are safe queens these days.

Short stroke AR or SKS.
No long stroke, no internal piston.

My short stroke AR stays wet even after 6 months of truck rides, range sessions, and no love, she loyal Fr.

Just an idea for content...

You should form extensive tier lists of AK and AR manufacturers and their rifles.

I have two AKs, one Norinco and one PSA. By the way, the PSA has not malfunctioned in 1,300+ rds. I was pleasantly surprised, and I consider myself fortunate.

I've hauled ARs and AKs through the mountains and high desert for decades. The AR is by far the easier rifle to carry and manipulate all day every day.

The best thing about the AK is it's loose tolerances and it's ease of operation anyone can break an AK down and clean it and put it back together and AR is a whole lot more difficult plus the fact that an AK can get a whole lot dirtier and you don't have to do as much maintenance in between

I mean it IS an ancient weapon, barely newer than an stg44

The main problem with the AK is that they're sold WAY higher than they have any right to. If you could just buy them for $50 a piece like they were intended to when they were first made and everyone had 5 of them around the house, it'd be a different tale.

The best thing about my AK us it will run every kind of ammo I've tried and it continues to run no matter how frakkin dirty it gets! Matter of fact, it's been in the safe for about a year so I will rectify that this weekend! I've been consitrating on my carry and truck gun, so it's time to get aome of the good ole boys out to play!

It shows the innovative prowess of a simple soldier and his personal ability at the time to invent one of the most iconic rifles in history, and still in use decade's later.

To me the beauty of it is the metallurgy . The west has tried for years to get that part right and really hasn't . Wrong hardness , wrong composition, wrong methods. It's a simple design with some complexities that make it interesting to me . I think we have some gunsmiths that get it , major manufacturers ..not so much.

So as you can tell by my name....me likey the AKs...but, I have a confession and a maybe surprising take.

After I bought an IWI Galil ace gen2, 13" "pistol" I have and see zero reason to use an AK in a serious situation.

Truck gun=Galil
Shtf=Galil or in this country something in 5.56
War=Galil
Want that signature recoil impulse=Galil.
Milled reciever=check
Smooth=check
Accurate for 7.62X39=check

I mounted a meprolite m21 to the rail and have never looked back.

Now, I still own AKs, I will own more but only because I'm a collector AND a shooter.

Galil is the AK for the 21st century

Honestly they're just wildly overpriced and impractical these days. Especially since the bottom end, which all run about $1000 now, aren't even built as well as the old WASR 10s

Buying the wrong stuff evidently..
my gripe with AK’s is the people driving the prices way up..
like Triangle 66 bakes costing 250$ each..
rifles like the Arsenal sam5 in 556 are amazing!
