The closest roadside monument to me is the Trail of Tears marker in Eagletown OK.
It marks where the tribes crossed the Mountain Fork river and settled in what was then newly designated Indian Territory.
It's not very impressive for what it represents... I think they could've done a better job. But at least there is something there.

Milo Coe road/West Hartland road. Somewhere near the Connecticut Massachusetts state line there is a small monument for a young child who fell off of a cart, I believe. Connecticut change the name of the road from West Granville road in honor of this child.
A little history I found on the internet.
" Milo B., son of Harlow and Mary Coe,
Died October 18, 1851, age 11 years.
He was found dead in front of this monument supposed to have fallen from a cart in which he was riding and instantly killed."
I personally have known about this monument for at least the last 50 years.
