When did "Rome" end in the west? If you're like me, you learned that the Roman Empire fell in a blaze of violence and destruction virtually everywhere all at once. But as it turns out, the fall of the Roman Empire was a process that occurred in different places at different times and in different ways. For example, "Rome" fell in Britain in 410 CE, whereas it fell in North Africa in 439 CE. Even after the last western Roman emperor was deposed in 476 CE, Roman society and culture largely carried on as it had for centuries before in the Italian peninsula under Gothic kings who spoke Latin and Greek. That all ended with the reconquest of Justinian and the Gothic wars of 535 CE. By the time those wars ended in 554 CE, the population of Rome had fallen to fewer than 50,000 (from an all time high of perhaps 5 million), and the era of a unified culturally "Roman" west was gone forever.

Funny you should ask. I own two books which have posed this question to me as well. Okay, so there is a book titled : Cities of the World. And in this is a 4 page drawing of Rome, I mean every single building in Rome is detailed in these drawings. Those were drawn between 1572-1617 Again, in full detail and wow, just wow!! Then, we come to another book titled : Piranesi The Complete Etchings These are all drawings from the artist Piranesi, in 1744 HE was commissioned to go to Rome and draw what he saw. He did, and it just brings more questions. First of all, Rome is in TOTAL shambles, completely annihilated. But, that's just one question...how? Then, you look at the scale of the ruins, I'm talking 12 foot tall urns, buildings with bottomless pits, mazes of underground architecture and in all of them, the ceilings are unbelievably high, maybe 50 or 60 foot, possibly 100 feet or more, impossible architecture for us, you think the pyramids are something, look at his etchings of Rome. So what tf happened between these dates?? And when were they gonna tell us the Romans were GIANTS?? OR THAT GIANTS EVEN EXISTED, BECAUSE THEY DID. Idk, it's alot to take in and alot left to figure out. And I know this book is 100% accurate because I have found most of the remaining architecture that STILL stands today.
