Clomiphene by its antiestrogen effect on the pituitary helps ovarian stimulation by releasing FSH; at the same time, it prevents the release of LH and thus prevents premature LH surge which can cause premature ovulation, thus avoids the use of GnRH analogs, reducing the cost.
However, its antiestrogen effect on the genital tract is a matter of concern as its prolonged use might alter the endometrial receptivity, hence this protocol can be used in oocyte donors and when sequential transfer is planned.
