Serbia and Albania

The tension centers around the history of Kosovo.
The majority of its inhabitants are ethnic Albanians.
Kosovo had enjoyed a high degree of autonomy within Serbia.
But that changed in late 80’s, bringing it under the direct control of Serbia.

Serbs settled in the Balkans in the 7th century and ruled Kosovo until, in 1389, following the Battle of Kosovo, control passed to the Ottoman Empire, until the Balkan Wars of 1912, when it was re-conquered by Serbia.
But Albanian claims to the territory pre-date the arrival of the Serbs.

India and Pakistan

During the British rule, Relations between the Hindus and Muslims became so sour that the country was partitioned under the Two-Nation Theory.
August of 1947 saw West and East Pakistan and the Union of India become separate nations.

Things turned for the worst when Kashmir became a part of India despite being a Muslim majority princely state.
Even today, tensions within Kashmir have brought the two nations to the verge of warfare.
