Athletes: Move the Bar As FAST as Possible. Here's Why

If your goal is to improve power, you need to cue your athletes to move the bar FAST.

📊 Power output lifting 225 with a 3 second concentric is HALF the power output of lifting 225 with a 1.5 second concentric.

Submaximal loads from 40-80% 1RM can be a great stimulus for power so long as the intention is to move the bar as fast as possible.

📉 Otherwise it just becomes a poor strength stimulus.

I’m using a Virtue VBT device to put numbers to this with my training and my athlete’s training.

So if i quarter squat for 4 reps with a weight i feel like i could do 6-8x(those last few reps would feel slow), how fast should those first 4 reps be? What if i move it as fast as possible but it's still a slow (1-2 sec) concentric? Will that still help increase my vertical jump or is that too slow of a rep?

what about the eccentric phase? shouldnt i lower the weight slower and explode it back up during the concentric phase do get more recruitment of fast twitch muscle fibres and to be more athletic overall? or is the eccentric phase just neglected and only the concentric is taken into consideration

It’s a very different stimulus that shouldn’t be engaged at a load that is equal to your 4/8 rep failure point. These shorts are way to short and you are touching on a topic that shouldn’t be in a short. This could really hurt someone that doesn’t know better.

And how much shorter are those athletes' careers because of this? 😂
