This is why wrestling is a dying art form. By the time these guys got to the WWE they had already put in years of training and work in the territories.
A lot of them (like Hogan, Savage, Piper etc) already had their character worked out and Vince just came in and grabbed them when they were already starting to get over in the territories.
By the mid 2000s- all the wrestlers who had come up through the territories started retiring. And that’s one of the reasons why wrestling will never quite be the same.
