I drag raced cats back in the day . They convinced me to . To get the first 580 zr . Which was a great oval and cross country sled . But under powered as a drag sled . But we played heavily with the extremely . Adjustable suspension . The fox shocks that you could disassemble and adjust the valving if we’re great . By the time the 600 triple came out . I was one of the few that had spent that much time with the zr at the strip ..( as a stocker) I wax the first I’m aware of to race a 600 , we pulled it out of a crate . Jammed the suspension and track out of my 580 . On a Friday night . Box of jets and clutch parts and headed to a grass race in New York State . 95 I’m not a triple fan . ( it’s a Polaris deal ) and I loved my beast of a 700 twin zr . That won a lot . But the 600 . Was very competitive . And fun to race . Especially after flogging so hard on the 580 , also was in attendance . When Brian Sturgeon won , formula 3 at eagle river on his first 600 95 . Historic race , but the cat drag racer of the era was . The 700 twin beast of a torque monster out of the hole . Especially 500 feet on grass , 600 zr jet it lean clutch it to pull a straight cut 55 degree secondary cam . 700 zr rear suspension front spring to get it to transfer . Back and also forward for front bite . On the trail crank up the front suspension make it corner flat

Bought my 99 zrt 600 brand new, it was my first sled. Grew up in michigan my whole life and never sledded until 99 when I bought that thing. It got modded and actually made good power. On the dyno the tiny 600 made 134hp. The D&D clutching was good for 9450rpm. Same brand triple pipes even tho it came factory with triple pipes but the D&D pipes into a small 3 into 1 MBRP can made for some sweet noise. V-force reeds, Racepak computer on the dash with triple display. Never actually went inside the engine because i bought it new but kept it clean and mint. Holtzman dial a just knob was very helpful in the UP where temps would get much colder than where we usually rode east of Gaylord. I got into watching the weather all week and jetting and raise or lower the needles at home in anticipation for the weather that weekend so i was always real close. The dial ad-just really helped tweak the fuel curve so the plugs were always clean. Amsoil Dominator synthetic was all it snorted. That machine still lacked low end. Tried playing with gearing but couldnt find the sweet spot. Anyway the little 600 might have been behind out of the hole but if there was enough lake it would edge out all the 800s and even my buddies 900 twin. That 99 zrt baby 600 was the last of the "traditional" sleds because just a few years later the Revs and F6, F7 stand up style became the new thing and it stuck.

Those 90’s era Arctic Cats have great longevity. My kids are still tearing around in my old β€˜97 440 zl.

I built one it's been sitting in my grandpa's barn for 12 years moved and just couldn't part with it. He passed away a few years back so it will definitely be a emotional moment when I go to pick her up eventually. But if you wanna make her rip mess with the gears I did 24 35 for lake runs but you have to bring up the engagement to 5900 I put a epi erlanderson silver spring to do that. Boyesen power reeds also mess with the rear clutch and it was a beast of a 600 triple 192 studs and a camoplast energy track also. Build her up before the shootout would love to see it. Wish I had mine
