I remember when I first got braces. I had spent the whole day in the orthodontist's office getting them applied and tightened down, and when it was over, I was starving.
I went into the nearest restaurant and I ordered a cup of chili. I couldn't get more than a mouthful down because my teeth were too sore to chew. It was a shame too, because that chili was really good.
I learned to live on milkshakes and ice cream when my teeth were sore after that.
BTW: sugar free gum works better on loose wires than anything else I have ever tried.

Our signature oven dish for braces back in the day (and now with mom & dad getting to be almost 80) was something that is called "hachis parmentier" here in Belgium. You take a big oven dish and lay down a layer of ground beef (half the dish), then you follow it up with a layer of mash. No joke, it tastes divine. 180° for 30 minutes is what we do. Our Aldi even sells it premade.

My mum always did macaroni cheese with sausages after I’d had my braces tightened - was tasty and easy on the teeth!

This is so wonderfully timed. My 13 yo has her first tightening appointment on Monday and had SUCH a hard time eating after getting braces on. I hadn’t thought about ramen, but we will have to get some and smoothie supplies this weekend. ❤

God bless you. I had braces for multiple years. (Thank you mom and dad!) My go-to was scrambled eggs. I just saw a super easy soup called pastina that would have been awesome. Chunked veggies that are cooked, blended, and then tiny pasta added.

I wish my folks thought about stuff like that when I was a kid. I was skin and bones and they ran out of money to finish my braces.

I’ve had mine for about three weeks and I’ve already lost five pounds! I’m an adult,but have always had trouble with keeping weight on,I can’t really afford to lose too much,I was finally at an ok weight for someone my size and I’m probably going to lose it all,and gaining it back after my braces won’t be easy.
