In the last few years lower priced watches have improved. Japanese movements as well as Chinese movements improving. Sapphire, ceramic and nice quality stainless steel. High quality builds, thanks to the micro-brands, boutiques and the big companies following. You can put together a collection of dress, divers, GMT and chronograph., for under $1,000. Very nice quality.
