He's an idiot and the AH.
She wasn't enough in his eyes, but she's clearly more than enough in her new relationship and it seems to be going quite well.
Perhaps she was doing her part but because he's insane he wasn't seeing that.
If love isn't enough for him, he'll never find happiness and he deserves the pain he put himself in. If he doesn't change, he'll stay this way.
I'm all for compassion and empathy, but this was needlessly cruel and selfish for no reason. He's an idiot.

This might be a hard pill for some but depends. If with no ambition op means she had no job and wasn't even seeking one, then yeah. He's nta. Only if there's an agreement that both accept (like being a sahm) such a thing is OK. If with no ambition op means chasing a career, then he's tah.

Another case of modern culture convincing somebody career and superficial success is the only thing that matters. I couldn’t imagine in a million years leaving a relationship, much less a 9 year one, due to a lack of professional ambition. I wouldn’t necessarily say you are or aren’t an AH but I’d say you’ve definitely made a huge mistake here
