Thomas says you could not pay him to stay in a homeless shelter. He says shelters made him sick, and his health didn't get better until he went back outside in a tent.

Thomas wants to go into an apartment, but he shares that the housing being offered to the elderly is rundown and not suitable to live in or they take most of his Social Security money, leaving him nothing to live on.

When the shelter becomes a death trap;
I surely pity this man. He is for real, my same age too. 😢

A mayor in Salt Lake County Utah dressed as a homeless person and spent 3 days on the streets and in his local shelter to try to understand things better. He ended up firing the entire shelter staff and starting his city's efforts from scratch. But he really got things turned around. If only other mayors and leaders took his example.

Most shelters are dangerous and dirty that's why most homeless people choose to be outdoors in a secluded place, but within a small walking distance from utilities bathroom, food,water etc.

Theirs no Humanity left in America. Its all for keeps at this point. Were all one pay check away from being evicted or being homeless. My heart goes to those who are feeling the pinch, stay strong and keep going!!!! I just can't believe in America anymore.

My friend said they kept the windows open on cold night with bed by the window. He was cold all night. We are getting a campervan on a small loan for him.

I believe him, and they think people should be glad to have a shelter to go to. Seriously? How bout they turn the shelters into permanent housing for the homeless. God bless him!🙏

This is sad and inhumane. I hope that he finds a healthy place that he can call home.

I lived in a homeless shelter for 15 months in what is generally a safe city, and I fully understand why some people would rather be on the street. The shelter had shared rooms in which I was with a random stranger. Of the four roommates who came and went, two were crazy and always shouting. It's extremely dangerous to be living in the same room with someone you don't even know.

Another thing that happened at the shelter was that the police would be called at least once or twice a week. Ambulances and fire engines were also frequent visitors. Once a resident who had apparently been kicked out started a fire next to the garbage cans. The shelter workers managed to put out the fire, and the police arrested the man. I strongly suspected that the man deliberately got himself arrested just to have a roof over his head.
