He's not lying. I served near Hiroshima. Japan has a special place in my youthful memories. There is nothing better than being a young Marine in Japan in 2005.

America and Japan are literally the definition of intense rivals who became the closest of friends.

My Dad was wounded on Iwo Jima. He was 17. Had only been there for 1 day. He was in the Seabees. He got a Japanese bayonet in the lower abdomen. I had no idea until I was in my 30s. I knew he was wounded but he never talked about it or showed us his scars. But he screamed most nights as he slept. I knew he didn't sleep with my Mom. But later I found out it's because he might hit her in his sleep. I lost him in 2016. I certainly do miss him.

Some of the nicest people that I've ever met, and if not nice then definitely the most respectful above all else

I stopped off at Kadena Air Base in Japan for a day and got to walk around. Those Japanese people were the most polite, sweet people I have ever met in my life. Beautiful country and wonderful people.

I lived in Japan for 3-years when I enlisted in the Navy. It was the most eye opening experience to me. And it’s the standard I hold the U.S. to since moving back.
