🌳🌺 In this garden update, we're combining three eventful weeks that showcase the beauty and resilience of our green paradise. 🌱✨
Week 9 brought a delightful surprise - a bunch of lovely irises, gifted to us as divisions! 🌸🎁 We found the perfect spot for these stunning blooms in our pollinator pathway, surrounding our charming birch seedlings. Bearded Irises are a pollinator's dream, offering easily accessible pollen for our buzzing friends. 🐝🌸
In Week 10, our shade garden diverted my attention. We put in a rock boarder, and transplanted the red veined sorrel around the base of our ferns, creating a nice color contrast to really make the ferns pop once the sorrel grows bigger. The French Sorrel is my go to favorite for adding to dishes. It has a lemony tang, and is one of the first greens to appear in the early spring. Since they were started from seed at the beginning of the season, they don't look like much right now, but when they fill out, it will make a great ground cover for the shade garden.
The lovage also sprouted, promising to add its unique flavor and versatility to our culinary adventures, but it is not quite large enough to transplant in yet. 🍃🌿
Week 11 brought its own surprises - volunteer plants from both wild seeds, and seeds that I planted last year that failed to sprout. I assume the seeds needed cold stratification to germinate, and I had written them off too soon I'll talk about those more in the next video. Sometimes weeds are just beneficial plants growing in the wrong place. 🌿💚
