Uriah Heep also announced their farewell tour 2025-2027... In 2020 someone made the prognosis that most if not all bands formed before 1975 cease to exist by 2030. I guess they're right. Life is short, but the amazing music they created and shows they played will live on.

It’s not about retirement but economics. Joe Sixpack thinks that you strap a guitar on and everybody hits the road. Most likely former founding members or their estates get some royalties from shows and since Kevin is the last original to tour he can command a nice income taking some of his current REO guys and going out on the road as Kevin Cronin. It’s a good move. Kevin can do cruses and a package tour and have a lot more flexibility as a solo act touring.

I am guessing its licensing and a very styx like thing going on, though STYX went on without the founding member they kicked out, but REO has kind of been a novelty act for the most part, almost two decades since a new record .

I think it also has to do with Kevin’s vocal cords. Saw him in August, his voice sounded good but there was no power behind it and he struggled getting up high. He apologized 20 times for his weakened voice
