ADHD Vlog: I threw up because my roommate changed the smell of our air purifier. 🤮🤢

I know many people believe “everyone has a bit of ADHD.” But this is what it truly means to have ADHD. I’m really sensitive to smells. I feel extremely anxious and dizzy, and I even threw up when I accidentally smelled something too strong. It could be being in the same room with someone wearing strong perfume, a car freshener, or someone smoking on the street. It’s so random and hard to prevent.

It takes me around 4 hours to function again. This happens about 3 times a month. That’s 12 hours wasted on “something irrelevant.”

I’ve received comments like “just tough it out” or “OMG, so dramatic” back when I didn’t know about “sensory overload.” It’s not an excuse, nor a way to shirk my duties. Luckily, I have a flexible job that allows me to manage an episode like this. Otherwise, I’d be called “lazy” or “weak” again.

Having ADHD means I have to constantly deal with episodes like this. What I’m saying is, I don’t expect others to understand what it feels like, or to do my job for me. Sometimes I just hope for a bit more time and space to deal with this overwhelming feeling that happens frequently, without feeling guilty about it.

Thank you so much, people put such an expectation on what ADHD looks like and they always say that “everyone has it it’s not a big deal” and your just so open about it and it’s breaking the expectation of what ADHD is and it’s giving me confidence that my ADHD isn’t abnormal ❤

I'm also very sensitive to smells, to the point I'll gag and feel bad in my stomach. Best thing to do is go outside and put a scent YOU like a lot close by! ❤

I hate when people say that it's like they wouldn't say "yeah everyone has a bit of cancer" like noooo, your immune system takes care of that. When the immune system fails then it becomes cancer the illness. So how dare they say everyone "has a bit adhd" like no, your brain takes care of that and they can function as normal. But when some people's brain is wired differently and cant properly regulate those then it becomes adhd so it's not all people. Ughh how rude of them. Stay strong gurl

This sucks, for me it's sounds or touch and I get into dissociation at work or irritable so I have to isolate myself with earbuds or calming music.

I have that with my ADHD hypo sensitive to smell. Some smells can set me off big time. That I can't even be in the house and then the room. Basically it ruins my whole experience in the house. As whatever that smell was it has to be taken out and all the bed sheets and everything that can be washed has to be washed and the walls have to be washed and sterilised. I find it really hard to go into shops if one cent has set me off I have to leave the whole shop basically I won't go back into that shop or go in the shopping centre again. So I go with a support worker just in case I freak out when I go out in public
