Tbf this does makes sense given the biggest problem with Sasuke almost no one talks about is how delicate his ego is even the what if arc where his clan were all still alive he still went evil all cuz he couldn’t handle not bring the strongest guy in the room

The thing that actually pushed sasuke over the edge was Itachi coming to the village for Naruto. Between that and the genjutsu reminding him oh how weak he was, is what made him accept orochimaru's offer. Or if you're an anime fan, him being caled a hopeless loser unworthy of his family name by the guy that he couldn't beat, and naruto put on a shirt.

We know that every use of the curse mark makes them slightly more willing to obey Orochimaru, so if he hadn't used the curse mark AT ALL maybe he wouldn't have been able to be convinced to leave? The few times he used it weakened his resistance to Orochimaru.

Not necessarily. While Naruto defeating Gaara was one of contributing factors, the straw that ultimately broke the camel's back was Itachi's return. If Itachi didn't return, he probably would've stayed in the village for a while longer. In the end, it doesn't matter because it was inevitable that Sasuke would leave, just like Orochimaru predicted.

The biggest thing for me when it comes to the Naruto universe is that despite the fact that they have people who can literally go into people’s minds, there’s no psychiatrist.

In my version of the story (that should absolutely be canon), he recovers relatively quickly after the exams and shadows Anko while Naruto is with Jiraiya. Sasuke goes on a mission with Anko, but they nearly fail due to his lack of skill/experience, which adds to his frustration since Anko would be the only Leaf ninja capable of training him to use CM.
