My siblings and I grew up like that. It damaged everyone in a different way. My parents were kind and loving people, but they were sick and there was nobody to help out!

As a former child in a home like this thank you for all you do. Living in wreck like this is consuming. Even if it doesn’t stay clean it matters so much when it is. I lived all my years in a home with a neglectful mom who consistently let the home get close to this point and would get mad if me or my little sister tried cleaning it. I grew up in a hoarding situation. It's abuse, no matter what the parent is going through. And in my experience the clean rooms never stay that way, the hoard always comes back.
