I still had not started puberty when I attended University. It was not until a chance meeting with an endocrinologist working in the same hospital where I worked that I was correctly diagnosed with Kallmann syndrome.
When I told the doctor my story, the first question he asked was "did I have a sense of smell ?". I have never had a sense of smell and no doctor had asked me that question before. I also have poor hearing which is also linked to the condition I have - Kallmann syndrome.
Kallmann syndrome is a form of a condition called hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which is just a long winded way of saying that the hormones that normally control puberty and fertility which should be released by the pituitary gland are not being produced correctly which prevented puberty from occuring.
