More Context & Credits:

Anneliese Michel was a devout young woman from Germany who, in 1968 began suffering from seizures and was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy.

Despite treatment, her condition worsened. She reported seeing demonic faces, hearing voices, and developed an intense fear of religious symbols.

Believing she was possessed, Anneliese and her deeply religious family turned to the Catholic Church for help.

Between 1975 and 1976, two priests performed 67 exorcisms over ten months. During this time, Anneliese stopped eating, endured violent fits, and her body deteriorated rapidly.

She died on July 1, 1976, at just 23 years old, weighing only 30 kilograms. Her parents and the priests were later convicted of negligent homicide.

Many of the exorcisms were recorded on audio tape — capturing her voice dropping into deep, growling tones, sometimes speaking in unknown languages, and displaying bursts of unnatural strength.

Some saw it as undeniable proof of possession. Others — especially medical experts — believed it was the tragic result of untreated epilepsy, psychosis, and deep religious influence. To this day, her story remains highly debated.

Note: 3rd and 5th images are scenes from the dramatized film "Anneliese: The Exorcist Tapes (2011)".

She probably had psychosis and wasn’t possessed! I was diagnosed with epilepsy a couple of years ago after starting to have seizures at 34 years old. I had no history of them, my brain felt like it was on fire. After I have a seizure it really messes with my brain as far as memory and mood. I get really depressed and anxious it can last weeks. Thankfully I’m on medication now which is controlling it. Seizures can also cause hallucinations and psychosis, this poor girl. I am so thankful that I was born when I was and that I have people around me who actually take care of me. I hope she’s resting peacefully now and I’m sorry that everyone failed her.

My daughter had Encephalitis (swelling of the brain). She had major psychosis and was hearing and seeing things. I am thankful for modern medicine, she has recovered and lives a normal life now.

Around 2004 a friend described that the devil had possessed his sister— I asked how did he know he said ā€œ well we found her in the middle of our property, in the middle of the field with a knife and she was possessedā€

I instinctively thought she was having mental health issues. I was 11.

Now as an adult I know it was become her parents where marrying her off to someone in their small village. 😢

The brother of an old friend of mine worked on the restoration and conservation of icons some 15 years ago. He was not a classical monastic, but he traveled to Poland, Italy, etc They offered him to be a member of the exorcism order and help where needed. This intrigued him, but he refused because many of them at that time, as he found out, did not even live 30 years performing so many exorcisms.

The fact that there is still ignorant people in this comment section. She clearly went into psychosis after experiencing seizures for the first time, without the proper medical intervention that we have today. During those so called exorcisms they didn’t feed her? Bathe her? Why did she only weigh 30 kgs by the end of it all? Why are her eyes covered in bruises? Demons might be real because the demons in this story are those so called parents and priest who practically murdered this poor girl.

Guys possessions are not a real thing, obviously she needed medical help and not the exorcism… guys she literally died because of the exorcism.

For those who don't know: she was definitely possessed since she has six different voices and have super strength and the demons are Judas NERO Cain Hitler Lucifer
I don't know if this is true

And this is why when it comes to possession, the exorcist is actually the last resort. A psychiatrist and a doctor have to give the go ahead to go to an exorcist

I'm a Christian but I entirely do not support what the parents did. She clearly suffered something entirely unnecessary and she wasn't possessedšŸ’”

And this, people, is why I don't believe in any religions. If any deity is up there, so many things have been ignored and neglected and abused.

Canā€˜t we just spend a little more on education, and take all the special rights away from these criminal organizations?
