Despite GM's constant EV announcements and the upcoming Chevy Blazer EV, General Motors is Doomed and it's not Tesla killing it.

When Phil LeBeau asked GM President Mark Reuss to tell investors why they should believe GM that they're serious and have what it takes to catch up with Tesla, a single sentence was enough to see that GM IS DOOMED!

I used to like GM. They had WONDERFUL ENGINEERS, but these rarely got to show their skills because short-term oriented MANAGEMENT had their hands tied. GM engineers made the EV-1, they INVENTED the electric skateboard that Tesla now uses, they made the largest automotive castings ever until Megacastings appeared - but risk-averse management killed everything, put the ball on the ground and left the stadium.
So why should we believe they are serious this time, when their own management isn't really in?

So I was born 72 years ago, and I drive a Tesla, not a Buick. That should tell you something.😱

A car company that does not care about its people or the consumers who buy from them. They have received two bailouts since I have been alive and now will more than likely receive another except this time no amount of money will save their makeshift company of greed. The speed of innovation and efficiency is moving too quickly. Maybe they can make good hand tools?

💯 true. Too closed mind and short sighted to care about EVs because production is hard

You've cut him off entirely, I'd listen to the next bit to see his thoughts. They factually do make engines still.

GM deserves to be doomed ever since they stacked up the EV1 in the 1990’s and crushed them with no explanation.

It tends to make me wonder if they're not motivated by incentives and influences from big oil, like so many ICE producers have been in the past. Big oil has a deep reach.

In the late 90’s I witnessed these type of corporations shutting down even as the management celebrated with bonuses. Environmental cleanup is put on hold indefinitely as the doors are locked and security monitors an empty shell.

Someone actually gets it - finally. "Management always gets their bonuses (based on short-term accounting "profits") and its the workers that pay the price."

Your five parter on gm in China and how inept their management was/is, is unmissable and educational on the entire subject.

GM's problem has, for as long as I can remember, been its corporate culture. I thought once they produced the Volt, a dream car for the transition to electric. An electric car for 40ish miles and then unlimited miles on gas. They killed it. They can't produce an EV out of the thousands, and when one does... They kill it. GM is doomed for sure. Their visionless management is only outmatched by their inability to make the changes they need to survive.

So, if I am reading Mark Reuss’s body language correctly, he didn’t look like a tower of confidence, and strength there. So I am thinking that he knows they’re in trouble, that they’re less than a stones throw away from having to file bankruptcy or a bail out.😱

America has one person rolling the boat and six scouts. Other countries have six people rolling a boat and one scout when American boat lose, they fire the one roller. The scouts are the managers in the story.

These dinosaurs of the automotive industry are heavily burdenwd by their obligations not only to greedy shareholders but those they have to pay pensions for. Plus it's hard to shut old factories of old technologies. They just can't change direction fast enough.
