There are ways of inducing belief, or at least putting oneself in circumstances to make it more likely that you develop belief, or increase in credence: hang out with one or another group of purported believers a lot, do their rituals, imitate their peculiar ways of speaking, adhere to their moral code, study their doctrine via their best scholars.
This amounts to something that hardly seems like honest truth-seeking, which doesn't jive well with religions that literally say they're about worshipping the personification of Truth...
