Bill thinks he can just put a piece of cardboard over his house and then when it blows off in a storm, insurance is just supposed to cover it. Or maybe, construct it out of tubes of nitroglycerin. Who knows. There are reasons for building inspections and most of them aren't about just another way to get a government fee.

Maher uses a poor example in his roof inspection. The Bel-Air fire of 1961 disallowed the use of cedar shake roofs - which nearly all of the 500 mansions that burned had. It also protects the owner (and future owners) from future problems due to bad contractor practices. But the comical thing is Maher wanting to install solar panels (that will likely damage his roof), on a 15,000 square foot mansion, that would struggle to produce enough energy to power the pool pumps.
