For those wondering, Florida made it illegal to keeps Burmese pythons in captivity. A breeder was unable to rehome a number of his burms by the deadline and the court ordered that they would be euthanized. After warning those sent by the FWC that he had a boa as well but couldn't stay to watch them kill his snakes it turns out they mistakenly killed a pregnant boa constrictor he owned.

I can't even bear to watch the videos or read things about it because I'm so disturbed by what happened to these animals. But I think I will watch your livestream, because you have a gentle and logical way of speaking that soothes my spirit and makes hard topics easy to understand. You remind me of Mr. Rogers in that sense. So comforting, with so much inner strength.

Just imagine the situation is that it's a jurisdiction where pitbulls become illegal. A guy has several pitbulls and is trying to rehome them but can't manage to after the designated time. So the state comes up with the policy to simply kill any excess pitbulls with a nail gun. Now it turns out the guy also has a friendly golden retriever who is pregnant and when they come to kill the pitbulls with the nail gun they kill the golden retriever as well.
You can feel however you like about any aspect of the scenario I just described. Just keep in mind that there is nothing fundamentally different about that scenario and the one that took place here.

Had no idea what you were talking about until I read the comments. What an irresponsible and down right vile thing the FWC has done. The officers in charge need to be held responsible for their unprofessionalism. As for the snakes, I hope that through all of this, they can rest in peace, and I hope the owner can find closure for his grief. This is horrible.

For those of you that don't know, like I didn't. This video and the incident is from a year ago. Idk why it is popping up on so many people's recommendations now, but anyway.
A year ago Florida wildlife control was tasked with killing all of a recently illegalized species of boa in a breeder's care. They mistakenly killed his completely legal pregnant pet boa in the process. Despite it being explicitly labeled and the breeder reminding them multiple times.
If you look up "fwc kills snakes" you will find clips and such. If you are a reptile lover like you probably are discretion advised it is sad and grim.

I just watched the video, and it's heartbreaking. One of them said the snakes were suffering, and it was what needed to be done, and then proceeded to shoot them in the head with a inhumane euthanasia device. It was very clear those snakes were well taken care of and could have easily been rehoused. The boa was a bit out of shot, but anyone that deals with snakes could tell it was a boa. The FWC was way out of line.

Clint, I really appreciate you coming on here and speaking about this issue. I can hear the heartbreak and anger under your voice, I'm sure this was difficult for an intellectual like yourself to talk about this and just to even understand what happened from a logical point of view. It certainly affected us all in the community in a big way. I'm still talking about it in therapy to try to deal with the rage this has brought out in me. As angry as myself, and all of us are, I appreciate the message you're sending here, and I'm going to try my best to be a lot less combative with both people in the community, as well as with law officials. I'll be looking forward to hearing more from you about all of this. Thanks for everything you do! ❤️🔥🦎

FWC: “you can’t keep Burmese pythons in captivity.”
Also FWC: “we have no idea how to identify a Burmese python.”
