I’m a light skinned woman and I disagree that what Ekane said was true. Angela Bassett and Viola Davis are the biggest, Black, female actresses in Hollywood and have reached success that Halle Berry nor Taraji P. Henson have. Yes light skinned women do benefit from colorism but that does not mean that brown women will never be able to reach the same level of success or surpass light skinned women just because they’re not that color. Lil Kim is still the best female rapper to me and Venus and Serena Williams are still the best female Black athletes oh and Simone Biles. ALL OF WHICH are brown skinned women.
Edit: How could I forget Whitney Houston? Literally the best female singer, athletes, actresses and rapper are ALL brown women. None of them are light skinned. So it’s very false , Ekane’s mindset that Brown women will never be able to reach the heights of light women because Brown women are at the TOP of everything lol

When I was growing up in South Carolina, a light-skinned person was someone who was light enough to pass for white, and if the hair didn't cooperate, they would need a perm. People who are brown skinned who see themselves as light-skinned throwns me off given the aesthetic I grew up with. In other words, being light-skinned meant that you could pass for some category of white in the right circumstances.
