im white and my bf is black, im vry scared abt the idea one of my family members could be racist and dislike him or be just straight up rude to him or the idea of us having kids. i feel like the dad and the gf should talk, find some kind of common ground, set some boundaries, and come up with a solution. these are between and old ass woman and this teenage girl. clearly everyone loves this girl and this older lady is being fucked up bc she is racist. i think its a good idea to bring the idea of her coming by to dinner, warning the grandma, and warning the girl the grandma is crazy. if grandma doesnt want to deal with the fact her grandson is dating a black girl then she can simply not eat dinner with the rest of the family. kicking her out is an extreme. she is old. and clearly the dad loves her bc its his mom. he obviously wants the best for everyone in the situation. if they cant find anyway for a solution then maybe look into kicking her out or threatening her with it but idk, im a big pacifist, i feel like attempting every option is a good idea. i am not saying its the gfs problem tho. she isnt responsible for a crazy old racist lady. i think its the dad’s responsibility to facilitate and come up with a solution that betters the grandma and protects the gf. he is letting her live with him, she needs to understand that while she lives there she cant be a crazy racist. times have changed and she shouldve changed with them. its never to late but her behavior shouldn’t be tolerated. she needs to act her age and not like a toddler. she doesn’t understand? educate her or simply dont have her involved in family events that include the gf. the gf shouldnt be limited by this woman, the old lady should be the one limited because of her own actions.

Don't kick out your mom,you should explain and tell her that you understand her beliefs but your son's happiness over his girlfriend is just as important as her beliefs and the next time your son asks to invite her over, agree but warn her of your mom's beliefs.

I think she kinda TA but idk man. Not doing anything might fuck up her relationship with her son and putting her mom into a nursing home will probably fuck her relationship up with her mom. This is rlly sad. I get how it could be difficult to leave a loved one like that, maybe she feels like she’ll be abandoning or betraying her mom by putting her into a nursing home. Honestly just let the gf come over and if the grandma has an issue she can sit in another room 🤷♀️

I'd be having big talks with the girlfriend and the grandma. It's not Grandma's house or place to be setting the tone. The son lived there first and will probably move out as quickly as he could to get away from that racist grandma. OP is making even more problems by not talking to their mom to set some healthy boundaries the whole family could live by.

The mother is an old woman set in her beliefs as horrid as they are she won’t change. However banning your son’s gf from your house to cater to her isn’t right either. Tell your mom look she’s coming first dinner if you don’t wanna join us go out for the evening or stay in your room but she’s coming. But def warn the gf just in case so she’s not blindsided.
