For those of you wondering, Michael bought the catalog with the money he had made after the release of āThrillerā in 1982. Also as a side note, when I say that Lennon and McCartney owned the majority stake. Iām talking about in comparison to George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Because as the years went on Lennon and McCartney's stake only got smaller with them owning 15 percent and Ringo Starr and George Harrison splitting the remaining 5 percent. After Brian Epsteinās death, his family agreed to sell his stake and Dick James also decided to sell his stake at the same time with the Beatles. Originally, Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney were supposed to buy the catalog when they heard it was gonna go to auction. However, when they heard how much it was going for, they decided it was too expensive to pay. Little did they know it was Michael Jackson who bought it and many believed Michael overpaid for the catalog. The catalog also included some of the rights of the music from The Rolling Stones, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley and other artists. (ATV was a music publishing company which Michael had bought out). This short was only 60 seconds and itās too much information to cram in one video, so I just wanted to clarify the entire story in the comments. š
