This is exactly what the founders warned us not to do. They have put divisive subjects on the federal level. Where it absolutely does not belong. Abortion, the LGBTQ stuff, ect. None of this is supposed to have anything to do with the federal government. They're trying to turn liberties into rights. They aren't the same thing. They have been trained to believe it's majority rule. Which is only voting...to an extent. That is the "democracy" they want to save. I talk to many. They want the electoral college removed. Making us an actual democracy. Which, as history tells us, will absolutely fail.
