I have keys to several family members homes. It’s a safety thing and has come in handy for serious and not so serious things. I think she’s the AH if MIL has no history of being intrusive. I think he’s the AH for claiming he did all the work to save for the house when wife paid rent and bills to allow him to save. Personally I think they need a marriage counselor.
Also on another side note if they do manage to stay married I think it’s a big mistake not to have both spouses on the deed to the house as it can cause serious problems if he passes first leaving her with a house that doesn’t have her name on it. This is of course different everywhere but I recently learned what a headache it can be to not have everything in both spouses names.

Oh hell no your partner is right your mommy doesn't need a key you your shared home without her connection not even mention if she was paying all the bills and you weren't paying Jack shit at all yeah she pay for that house too. You want to call it your house and not hers then you should have been paying half of the bills when renting and then buy the place yourself without her help.

He should have discussed it with the wife before making decisions like that, however if the mom is trustworthy it's bot a vad idea to have someone trustworthy have a spare because you never know.....Thankfully i have an amazing MIL & if she lived closer I'd be ok with her having a key, I trust her completely, as it is my neighbor has a key because i have medical issues besides I have a key to my MIL's home.

I think it's important fir someone trusted tio have a key tio your house. You never know what can happen.
I thought dude bought the house completely on his own but, he let it slip that his wife was paying all the bills in order for the money to be saved up. Um, hello!! Sounds like the bills could've easily been split & both put money toward purchasing the house. OP is DEFINITELY the asshole for that alone! He sounds selfish & untrustworthy... the wife better watch for divorce papers.

There is something missing, has OP’s mom every over stepped their boundaries. Because I don’t see an issue with the mom having an emergency spare key. My mom has one for my brother’s place and she also did not give any money for it. It’s for emergencies or feeding the cat while your on vacation or taking the dog outside and/or feeding them because your stuck in traffic.

HELL no. My house/apartment is mine and my partners. Noone else is allowed a key PERIOD. Idgaf who. His best friend has permission to come in whenever, but he at least has the decency to knock or ring the doorbell first. My space is mine, regardless of if its shared, its still mine. No means no lol

She said technically she helped because she paid the rent and bills while I saved..... what you mean, technically? She helped buy that house, absolutely. Now, that said, she is weird for not wanting family to have a key. But the dood needs to quit saying he bought the house, like it was only him because that is some b.s.
