I would suggest everybody who has it done so, research and then document their family genealogy. You will see very quickly that people were mostly poor or lived very modest lives only a few Generations ago.

I'm so confused. I'm sixty and I remember taking hot showers before I was ten, and even then, nobody was talking about the new technology of the heated shower. When people came to our smallish house, my mother didn't show off the shower with heat. I also recall visiting my grandparents in homes they'd had well before I was born and taking hot baths or showers there too. Did they just call it something different?

No one had a hot shower until fifty years ago? 1975? Au contraire! Besides which, people were taking warm/hot baths long before they showered. The Romans were famous for their baths.
