Iām glad I live in Sweden. We pay about 35$ per surgery no matter what the ārealā cost is. No health insurance required at all in Sweden. If you have to go several times to the doctor the maximum cost per year is about 130$ total. Higher taxes of course, but they also include free college, free schools, cheap daycare for childrenā¦

What's crazy is that the insurance company will likely pay FAR less than that $205,000 because of the "negotiated price" between them and the health care facility which performed the surgery. I often see the "negotiated price" or "adjusted price" be 10% of the original price - sometimes even less. Medications are the same way - you'd be shocked by the discounts you can get by seeing if the manufacturer has any discounts available, or by going to websites like GoodRx. I pay $10/month right now for a medication that retails for $500/month just because I contacted the manufacturer. I have no idea how any of this is legal. What other industry hands out "90% off" discounts? Certainly not the cycling industry! Please, Ferrari, please!

End of 2020 I was run over at a roundabout and spent the initial 3 weeks in hospital. Multiple surgerys, district nursing, ongoing support, rehab, physio more surgerys. I am STILL being cared for although at much less regular intervals 20 months later. The government actually paid me to keep my family afloat during the time i could not work.
New Zealand here.
Ps i don't recommend having your urethra severed.

It's dispicable how health care works in the USA. As a Canadian multisport athlete, I'd be financially ruined in the USA. I've broken my collar bone, wrist and finger. Multiple x-rays and casts. Had 2 knee MRIs and both ACLS replaced as they fully ruptured playing sports. I had 3 MRIs for idiopathic pericarditis of my heart. All without paying anything besides my normal income taxes.
I'm 35 now, I cycle, I still work out 5 days a week, I still play sports none stop. If I weren't in Canada I'm not sure this story would have unfolded the same way!

I broke my wrist in a crash 2 years ago and had to pay exactly 0 $ for the operation.
Greetings from Germany
