The Sonoran Desert Toad has a unique defense mechanism. When it is in the presence of predators, it secretes a toxin that is poisonous for the predator. For humans however, this toxin functions as an intoxicant, having effects similar to other psychedelic drugs.
Licking a toad, an activity not so rare anymore, allows people to feel sensations of euphoria and hallucinations, though if you are not careful, it can even cause nausea, and sometimes death!
So before you head out to your backyard to find a toad to lick, note that not all toads do this at ALL, and you should probably stray away from ones that do, if you do not know what you are doing!
