I often get questions about how I create texture in my paintings. Texture is something I truly love. It allows me to express myself more fully when the surface isn’t smooth but rich with variations and details.

Most of the time, I build texture organically, layering paint over paint. I use spatulas, both traditional and improvised, leaving marks as I go. Occasionally, I’ll add mediums, like Amsterdam pumice for a sandy effect or texture paste, but I prefer the feel of creating texture with my hands, letting each layer build naturally.
