My sword was completely buffed and I killed him in one hit😭 a little disappointed but it was my own faul

Can you explain how to beat him without cheese? It seems the latest update has made this guy an absolute bullet sponge and weapons barely stay alive through the long fight.
Like... it's ridiculously long because of the damage output.
