I did start walking last year and was making an effort to do at least 6k steps a day to try and get in better shape. It went well until one evening in November I was walking home and someone shouted "OI" as I was walking past the local pub. I turned around but nothing. There were two guys standing in the doorway though. I carried on and the two followed me up the road. A little further up they started shouting at me calling me an f**** faggot. They knew my name too. I've no idea who they were but I picked up the pace and never looked behind me. I stopped walking in the local area if I can avoid it after that and haven't done as much since because I don't feel particularly safe. Once the weather picks up I'm hoping to get out and find some quieter spots further out instead maybe across the border in Derbyshire. The scenery is nicer there too.

Well said. I remember a few years ago when I was shopping for an expensive road racing bicycle the sales person was stressing to the guy ahead of me that it made much more sense to first of all get to one's idea training weight, get fit and then and only then to start worrying about the weight of a bicycle in grams. I doubt that sales person had much of a future in bicycle sales, despite being absolutely rational and spot on. The same goes for SOTA ops: don't worry too much about your overall pack weight until you get fit and loose that beer belly.
