Following on from the last post… this is ALSO why I love liberty 😄 not only does it have the power to re-awaken shut down horses and help them to find motivation in movement again, but this ⬆️!! Coming up to the fence and ready to engage and participate!! 😍

I can’t believe there was a time when I had to hide the halter behind my back in order to catch my horses. That in itself is a sign that there is something severely WRONG! 🫣

Horses that are hard to catch know that when the halter goes on, they don’t have a choice anymore, and they don’t like the things they have to do or tolerate once they are caught.

They are trying to maintain their last bit of freedom by walking away.

They are trying to communicate to their human that “I don’t like what is going to happen to me after you catch me.”

But eventually most of them oblige and allow themselves to be caught.

I’ve heard many people say “yeah, but he’s fine as soon as I get the halter on him.”

I can tell you right now, he’s not. Not internally. He spoke and he wasn’t heard.

The thing is, “yes” means nothing unless “no” is an option.

And when you choose to allow your horse to say no, you really have to challenge yourself to find a new way to reach your horse.

Now, you have to reach his MIND, not just his body.

It requires an understanding of how horses think differently to us, what motivates them… and what doesn’t!

But oh my god. When you learn how to truly reach your horse, it’s a whole new world.

The feeling of your horse truly saying YES, is like nothing else. And it is in that space that your relationship can finally grow.

Your relationship cannot grow in a space of force, submission and appeasement.
