Why Clients CLING to Pain: The Hidden Needs Behind Emotions
Every single painful thing (at least emotionally painful things) that you, or your coaching client feels, is experienced, and felt for one reason, because it meets SURVIVAL NEEDS.
This is counterintuitive, because why would something that hurts... actually meet needs? But it does.
For instance, DEPRESSION meets the need for CERTAINTY and CONNECTION.
ANGER meets the need for SIGNIFICANCE. FEAR meets the need for CERTAINTY. At least fear ATTEMPTS to meet that need by trying to control things. SADNESS meets the need for CONNECTION (and possibly certainty as well). Even FRUSTRATION meets a need for SIGNIFICANCE, and potentially VARIETY.
Every disempowering emotion, painful emotion, that your client feels, is simply felt... because it meets survival needs.
