9 hr surgery, heart lung machine ..I tried to deny cognitive impairment. I knew beforehand what my intent was, and for me as I was fearful of cognitive impairment, was to work word puzzles. Read and read more. I do believe pre op fear can be used pro actively to positively plan my rehab ahead of my complicated CABG. I cannot say I was unaffected, but my positive actions were a plus.
Thank you for all the information you provide.

Every 90 days I get a maintenance kidney stent procedure. I never remember talking to my surgeon after he talks to me post op. We were just talking about this earlier this month. This time I asked the nurse what he said and she repeated it to me. Lol.

I dread surgery after all I hear about it. Begging for IR instead of surgery but afraid surgery will be what they recommend. Had surgery with medical mistakes so never want it again.

My husband had memory dysfunction for several weeks after kidney surgery. I never consent to Versed. I don't want to have important conversations with people that I can't remember. I had a post op complication after my last surgery that required my good mental abilities to deal with.

It's pretty typical for people over 50 years old to have post-operative confusion and sometimes it lasts longer than 5 days. But usually by about a month later they are back to themsvelves. This is common knowledge for people in the caregiver community😊. But when I went in for my surgery I had some of that myself. I made sure to have support at home until I was totally bette

I used to drink and smoke and I woke up in a lot of surgery. I tell people that smoke weed you need to tell the doctor my friend didn’t listen there will be consequences praise God I don’t drink anymore.

I had a long surgery and wasn't particularly aware of anything until the next day. I was very sensitive to light and sound. I could taste the salt in food as if it was way over salted. I don't recall a sensitivity to smell or sound. That first walk in hall was a trip with all the bright lights.

Very interesting. … I have already had 3 major surgeries. The last was my hip replacement surgery. It feels as if I still have the affects of “ brain fog” .. when I’m conversing with my friends…. lol.
It was March ( complications during surgery- took much longer than surgeon anticipated. Excellent Surgeon 🧡🌟🧡💖👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Dr. K, for clarifying this. Although, I follow, all directions from my surgeon, before my surgery, to a “ T” . Great In

Not necessarily confusion or episodes of memory lapses, but I noticed minor issues with spellings and can’t recall certain words after my last 2 surgeries. I don’t take medications or using alcohol or drugs.

I have a little amnesia from my last surgery because I had to have stronger surgery meds plus I stayed up for two days prior. I don’t remember getting wheeled into surgery.

I only had appr. 1 hr with wisdom teeth removal but it took 4 days until the anesthesia left my system, I didn't eat anything beforehand as advised... I was definitely slower/weaker but otherwise ok.

I wish more doctors knew this, and would acknowledge it! After my 14th brain surgery, which was a 6-hr surgery, I have now developed Central Sleep Apnea and suffer from residual cognitive impairments! Now, I can’t get my doctors to help me get the further rehab! I’ve been abandoned!

What about lack of sleep prior to surgery?

Not cog pairment but what causes physical impairment ( sleepy tired not functioning at pre surgery baseline for months on end after gen anesthesia or 3-5 days after propofol?
