The video said "yugoslavia needs to be prepared for two war scenarios". Well unfortunately it was not prepared for the third war scenario, that actually happened. This mega construction was blown up with dynamite at the start of war in Croatia in 1991. The base is inside Croatia and the runway is in Bosnia. It was destroyed by the very Yugoslav National Army, so none of the war parties can hold it to their advantage.
What a waste of money. It cost billions of dollars to build during the 70s-80s, i believe it vas around $6 billion, which is in todays terms around $30. Instead of investing that money in infrastructure, which could have improved the economy in Yugoslavia, so that people don't think about nationalism, we have done the exact opposite.
This is only one of many military mega projects in Yugoslavia, which proved to be a failed strategy. Investing 15% of you GDP in military made sense while Stalin was alive, because he was the only threat to Tito, and for that I say Tito had balls of steel to confront Stalin, while the rest of east Europe joined the Warsaw Packt. But once Stalin was gone, there was no need to invest any further in military.
