I would make an educated guess that 100k pensioners struggling to pay their winter bills and being frightened to put their heating on too often would be far in excess of that figure. I work in peoples houses that are often colder inside than out and the customers are layered up like the Michelin Man. The reality is that even people earning a reasonable wage are struggling to afford heating never mind the poorest in society.

I'm retired and suffer from several serious illnesses.
This will be my 4th winter in a row without heating....
Couldn't afford to keep topping up my gas meter , so my Housing Association couldn't do a Gas Safety Check , so they Capped my meter.
Ergo , no heating, hot water or cooker.
I'm an ex Serviceman, so glad i risked my life for this 🤬🤬🤬

Running the heating costs too much for me and I’m not a pensioner yet. 15 degrees in my front room and that’s the warmest room in the house.

A lot of us were already in poverty before having the winter fuel allowance stopped because the pensions are ridiculously low. Way below the minimum wage limit.

We come just above the limit ! We saved and were careful with money so we had a little bit put by!!!

I’m 70 and still have to work to get by but I cannot afford heating! My house is freezing, I work from home so I’m sitting here with a hot water bottle to try to keep warm. My heating is on at 14’C and already at only 10am it has cost me £3 😞 Damn the Government for stopping the winter payment! I’d like to see the PM, with all his money, manage on a pension

Chancellor Rachel Reeves earns around £160,000 a year as a Government Minister. I survive on a state pension of £12,000 a year ... and she says SHE had to make difficult decisions. Well, now I have difficult decisions to make: FEED and FREEZE or keep the heating on and STARVE this WINTER! I am really NOT looking forward to the next few months ... if I make it.
