It's taken me nearly 36 years to very personally relic my 1988 Gibson SG 62 reissue.. all the dings, scratches, worn paint, yellowy/brown binding discolouration, and the nitro lacquer all cracking etc. all my own work. :)
I love it so much. 🫶

So in 10 years your custom shop will be a matchstick with no volume pot.

Nice.

The tech who set up my last guitar said he's seen brand new 20k usd custom shop strats that were absolutely garbage.

If you haven't already, you can fix the pots with Electrical Contact Cleaner, just be sure not to get it on the finish, spray down the pot where the knob sits.

"vintage sound" ah yes, my guitar will sound different depending on what year it was made.

This is the most helpful video you’ve ever made. I no longer cover a nitro body guitar. I had expected it to wear out over years, not days!

I have a feeling you might enjoy Nick Johnston's signature guitar from schecter, it's a s-type guitar with modern features like a roasted maple neck and a modern tremolo, and also locking tuners and a tusq nut

I have a player series that would not show wear, so i got some sand paper and carving tools to got to work. Changed pickups and installed locking tuners and its a work horse. I have a tele that i might relic as well.

i had the chance to buy an ill friends 1962 MINT strat about 28 years ago. he needed the money, he was quite sick and his law practice was suffering. i went to music stores all over toronto trying to sell it. the most offered was $2,000. Finally my late amp tech guru Buzzy agreed with me that it was worth 5-6,000. He found a collector and i sold it for 6,000 for my late friend. i told him i would buy it Only if i could match top dollar. i was a high school teacher supporting my family and could not come up with that kind of money. Glad i got him at the time a good price. Treating everyone with respect is number 1. Now i am 72, in poor, painful health. i did meet my dream guitar players a number of times. Hellecasters and many times Albert Lee. Very grateful😊

But dude the vintage look is from the scratches. I personally love it.

Fully agree. I know the story of every mark on all but one of my guitars.

I agree. I feel like the pre-worn stuff is almost worse than a used guitar with less wear. But, idc if me or even my tech guy dings it up a bit (he did free work for me)

Idk if you already do it but a cool series would be teaching how to repair/take care of your guitar!

There's a charm. The volume knob probably needs cleaning if it's crackling, and i don't know why the trem would go out though
