"Joan of Arc," painted in 1865 by John Everett Millais

Small description on this painting 👇

Joan of Arc was born in 1412 to a peasant family in Domrémy, France, during the Hundred Years’ War when much of northern France was under English control. From about the age of 13, she claimed to hear voices of saints urging her to support Charles, the Dauphin of France, and help drive out the English. Convinced of her divine mission, she left home as a teenager and traveled through hostile territory to reach Charles VII at Chinon in 1429. There, after gaining his trust and passing a series of examinations to test her sincerity and faith, she persuaded him to let her accompany the French army. Dressed in armor and carrying a banner, Joan joined the troops heading to Orléans, setting the stage for her first great military triumph.

I love the differences in how we view her eyes. To me, it looks like the feeling of panic and knowing you're going to have to push through anyway her story had me in shambles and still does to this day

She was executed by the English and the Burgundians as a witch because they could not imagine that a woman had defeated them.

Joan of Arc did not fight in battles; she was mainly there to motivate the troops.

I see worry, sadness and weariness only. Her look makes me want to hug her and tell her "It's going to be ok" although that would be a lie.

Brave and hopefully is not what I would use. I would say that she has the look of resignation on her face. She has resigned herself to standing and fighting against an enemy she may not best. She likely will not survive but what is at stake is worth fighting to the death over.

She Who is All Mighty isn't holding it together in reality and in that painting 🎨💕
She weeps on the battlefield surrounded by death ☠️💀 and crows 🐦‍⬛ with blood on her hands that she knows will never wash off 📴
She is the Mona Lisa 😍 and The Virgin Mary Magdalena Mona Lisa Jean Ban

"When you put all your faith in a higher power, you lose your ability to think for yourself."
Joan of Arc was executed for the crime of wearing men's clothing, which her accusers deemed an abomination (Deuteronomy 22:5), despite being devoted to christ & leading her people to victory.

"About noon, an arrow entered Joan's body, just above her left breast, at exactly the place she had prophesied to her confessor on her way from Chinon to Orléans. She fell back, in shock and in great pain. She wept, despite her foreknowledge of the nature of her wound. It is as though she were surprised, not that she had been struck by an arrow, but that it would hurt." - Mary Gordon

I see resignation on her face and Sadness to go to war and the unknown fate of herself and her country. We know what happened to her but she had no idea how her life would turn out and her fate. She was used as a pawn by a king she had crowned and a scapegoat to blame for political reasons money one her control. Her actions were pure but those around her were not. Very sad, demise for a girl so young.

Looks worried, almost resigned to her fate. She had said she her the voice of God, maybe He told her of her eventual fate.

people with fanatical religious conviction have no fear. she's probably meant to be praying in the painting. religious fanatics tend to pray a lot.
