You expected a masterpiece because the first was that, this was a solid 8/10 for me and didn't ruin the name of Gladiator. The storyline was more complex and had nice twists.

I can't agree with you more. There was no character development. They didn't convince us the twin emporers were evil people they just told us they were tyrannical and added some foreboding bad guy music. It was like they were told to play "the devil incarnate" in every scene instead of portraying human beings that had human ambitions but didn't care about the means. And Denzel's character needed A LOT more development and more scheming for me to be drawn in. When Lucius's mother gets killed by the arrow they literally spent zero time focusing on her death. Not even a tear from her son, not a word, just... "Next scene". Really really really bad storywriting.

Nah. You expected a masterpiece and that’s your downfall. This movie was great. Sure cgi wasn’t great but it was a fun entertaining movie that pays homage to the first one.

Just got out of the movie with my group of friends (atleast 10 of us). We all liked it. For sure its not the first movie, but it is good and a worthy sequel.

I agree with you They say to make a great movie you have to relate with the character. with the first gladiator you felt for him and everything he went through before he became a gladiator. In gladiator 2 you could care less about any character. Not to mention the fake looking baboons and sharks It was ridiculous

To be fair… Commodus was pretty cartoony in the first one. Nobody was expecting this to live up to the original. This film did a great job subverting my expectations on the story and the twists/risks it took. The ending was very fitting as well

Just watched this and i was looking for a review to comment on. You are spot on! I was reading actual critics saying this was a masterpiece before i watched it. Ridley scott needs to reitre, this was a mockary of the original.
