VR headsets do not cause near sightedness. VR focal distances are generally set to more than 1 meter away from your face. That's why if you're nearsighted irl, when you put on a VR headset, the image will be blurry just like irl, and you'll need prescription slide on lenses.
Do some more research next time before posting misinformation.

Exactly, like I posted a comment asking if you wear a AR/VR headset, then that means that there are displays very close to your eyes, and when you look at something that is up close, a muscle in your eye pulls on the lens so you can see clearly.
So, if you are looking at something that up close for hours, that might weaken/strain the muscle responsible for changing the shape of the lens.
Unless Apple made the lens so that it tricks your eye into believing that you are looking at something far(therefore tricking your eye's muscle to relax), they just contradicted a feature they announced earlier in the event.
But think about it, the headset could help a lot in terms of accessibility, so it isn't all that bad.
Like people who don't have night vision could wear the headset at night while going for a walk, or possibly even driving(if that becomes legal).

The focal distance means your eyes don’t focus the same as holding a screen that close to your face
