🏃♂️🏃♀️Testing horizontal force production with the Single leg Rebound Test.
The Single Leg Rebound Test evaluates the reactive strength of the lower limb, focusing specifically on horizontal force production. According to Kotsifaki’s research, horizontal hops emphasize the ankle and hip for propulsion and the knee for landing, while vertical hops distribute the effort more evenly across the ankle, knee, and hip. This makes this test a good measure of Calf & Achilles reactive strength.
During the test, the subject hops over a small hurdle and then propels themselves forward as far as possible, aiming to do so quickly.
This test can be performed using force plates, contact mats, or the My Jump app to measure ground contact time.
The metrics & targets for this test are:
📏Hop distance: less than 10% difference from side to side
📏Ground contact time of less than 0.30 seconds
📏Reactive strength index of upwards of 6m/sec
📏Quality of landing
Shoutout to Colin Griffin for introducing me to this test years ago! 🙏
