During the Johnny Depp / Amber heard case, Amber denies telling TMZ about the TRO photo-op, but how else would they have known to send photographers and which side of her face to photograph? Amber calls TMZ employee a rando. However, this chap, Morgan Tremaine, came across on the stand as believable and calm. When he gave evidence, he was no longer employed by TMZ, but TMZ still tried to stop him from giving evidence, even though there are videos on the internet which predate the trial in which TMZ said openly that they received the cupboard slamming video of Johnny from Amber Heard.
As per her recent TV interview, Amber Heard wants people to believe that the only people who testified in favour Johnny Depp are paid employees (implying that they are all liars) and a bunch of what she calls "randos".
One thing juries look at is how a person's words on the witness stand match up to the physical evidence. When Amber says in court that she wishes Johnny would move on with his life and leave her alone and the audio recording shows her chasing him around and admintting that he hid away from her in bathroom after batroom to get away from her ... that leaves it open to the jury to think that she is lying. If she lies about one thing, she might lie about another and if they think she is a liar, they can give very little weight to, or even ignore her testimony.
The credibility of witnesses is key in any trial. If the jury finds either side to be a liar in the Johnny Depp defamation suit, that could determine the case. The Johnny Depp Amber Heard trial has now received a jury verdict in favour of Johnny Depp on all counts for $15m (reduced to $10.35m in accordance with Virginia limitations on punative damages) and in favour of Amber Heard on one count for $2m (relating to the statement by Johnny's former lawyer that Amber and her friends had staged the scene as a hoax by upturning furniture and spilling wine and then calling the police, all under the advice of Amber's PR person and her then-lawyer) . As a lawyer with 27 years experience, I can confirm that if the jury thinks that Ms Heard was caught in a lie, this would have significantly harmed her case. If they think she lied about one thing, they are entitled to view her entire testimony with scepticism or disregard it altogether.
