Tidal waves and storm surges strike the shore wreaking lethal damage on the people of E.P now Bangladesh. Around 500,000 people overall died. The most heavily affected area of people were the coastal residents. The government of W.P reacted late and E.P politicians accused them. The government however claimed that they have sent the relief teams on time and efficiently. India was ready to help the people of E.P in such crisis but were not allowed to fly in aid.
The aftermath was worse than the initial impact. There was very little food so many people starve to death. The water was contaminated so people were suffering from diseases. A lot of deaths could have been prevented if message was broadcasted out on radio. When the Bhola Cyclone was occurred, the Pakistani government decided not to broadcast a warning signal to the people in W.P which angered the Bengali people.
The special elections held by Yahya Khan in 1970 right after the few weeks of the cyclone, which created more issues for him.
