Did you know French schoolchildren were once served wine during lunch breaks? 🍷
Until 1956, it was completely normal for kids in France to choose between red wine and white wine, just like modern kids choose chocolate or banana milk. Crazy, right?

Back then, alcohol was believed to kill germs and “warm the chest,” so many parents packed up to half a liter of wine or beer in their child’s lunchbox. For younger children, it was even diluted with water!

But things spiraled out of control...

🌀 Fights broke out in classrooms.
😴 Students fell asleep during lessons.
⚠️ Teachers were overwhelmed.
And in 1956, the French government finally acted—banning alcohol for kids under 14, but only with parental consent.

Even more shocking? 🧠
🎓 High school students were still drinking alcohol in school cafeterias until 1981.
