Succession is the incorrect word. Somaliland actually existed as a recognised country on June 26th 1960 - factually. Whilst SomaliA Italia was still an Italian colony (under UN trusteeship). It was a “union” on the 1st of July 1960 when SomaliA Italia become independent. The TWO countries merged under an unratified “Act of Union” to become the “Somali Republic”. Just like Senegal and Gambia formed a union to become SeneGambia. When it didn’t work they dissolved the union. Same case with Somaliland and SomaliA. Case in point “SomaliA” the name only came about after the civil war and genocide of Somaliland by the dictatorship government.

The reason why no country recognizes it is because for international recognition it needs to be recognised by the African Union and the only country not allowing it to join is Somalia.
