I looked to hearing a seagull sounding really strange and wigging out, and my friend said it sounded like it an "alarm" call. It came back and did the same again, but the neighbors were starting their truck. After that, it was gone, and I heard a raven go through the same area.

From the art of intelligence, seagulls are known for their vocalizations, which serve various functions such as warning calls, territorial signals, and social interactions. When a seagull sounds alarmed or makes strange calls, it often indicates that it perceives a potential threat or disturbance in its environment. This behavior can occur even in the absence of other birds, as seagulls are highly aware of their surroundings and may react to unfamiliar sounds or movements, such as a truck starting.

Alarm calls serve to alert other nearby birds, but a solitary gull may vocalize out of instinct or as a response to its own perceived danger. Their communication is essential for survival, allowing them to express distress or caution when faced with potential risks. Such calls can also be an expression of their strong territorial instincts or a response to human activity nearby, which they may interpret as a threat.
